• Annotations are grouped into annotation layers.

• The links to sound files are annotations.

• Annotations can represent nested structures.

• Annotations are strings and are identified by their string value inside their own annotation layer.

• Between linked units exists an n : n relationship 

At each layer of the data model the units can be linked to other annotations outside of their own layer . Annotations can be linked with other annotations.

Das in der Folie dargestellte Modell beschreibt das Konzept der annotierten Korpora auf einem wenig ausdifferenzierten Niveau. Wie differenziert und komplex dieses Schema ausgestaltet werden kann, zeigt in sehr prägnanter Weise folgender Aufsatz: Bird, Steven / Liberman, Mark: Annotation Graphs as a Framework for Multidimensional Linguistic Data Analysis. Verdienst dieses Aufsatzes ist es auch, die generalisierende und gleichzeitig analytische Kapazität einer 'Annotationslinguistik' aufzuzeigen.
